The Community Mentoring programme was founded and developed by a consortium of Higher Education Institutions with the support of the Higher Education Authority, through the PATH initiative. It was created with the hope of increasing the diversity found at third level education in Ireland by raising the aspirations of second level students with the help of local role models.
At the moment, in partnership with the Community Mentoring programme and Trinity Access, our school is recruiting a number of past pupils/parents/business leaders/community Leaders, to receive training and act as mentors in our school. This training is designed by Trinity College Dublin with input from National College of Art and Design, Marino Institute of Education, University College Dublin, Institute of Art and Design, and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.
Once mentors are trained, they will then deliver three structured mentoring sessions throughout the academic year to a group of students from 2nd-5th year and upon competition will receive a certificate of participation.
It’s more important than ever to be proud of our journeys, share our stories and encourage others across our communities to make plans for the future, while considering further and higher education as a real option for them. Becoming a community mentor will only be a commitment of approximately 6 hours (3 hours training and 3 hours delivery) but you could have an impact on our students which lasts their entire life. We hope that you will consider being part of this important programme.
Community Mentoring training will take place both in-person and online. You will have the choice of which event you attend (you must attend one session only).
